**Salon Plaza’s Recent Interview With KISHA Reveals Her PASSION For providing the best Natural Hair Care!**

Congratulations, Kisha, for being chosen as Salon Plaza’s April Member of the Month. What makes you stand out from the crowd as a salon professional?

Kisha: My atmosphere at Chic of Essence is really low key and relaxing – a loving salon space that reflects the true me.

I like to laugh. I want to make sure your hair is healthy and you get the best natural hair care and service you want. I really do listen, learn about my client’s lifestyle, and speak from my heart. I’m not just here to stand behind the chair. I am serious professional – I stay focused on new things and am always training.

You have an awakened passion for life. What inspired you to become a hair stylist?

Kisha: I like people to relax and to make them happy. It’s natural. As a little girl, I always played dolls and loved fashion. When I watched models walk down the runway on TV, the hairstyles really caught my interest.

In high school, I modeled for a while and chose to pursue fashion through hair. I entered the New York Hair Show competitions. I put my full focus on fashion and enrolled in Chantilly High School’s cosmetology classes.

What is your unique difference as a cosmetologist?

Kisha: A haven for relaxation, Chic of Essence is all about fashion and beauty. It’s about feeling welcome, beautiful, and good about yourself.

My specialty is healthy hair care – correcting chemically damaged hair, keeping up maintenance with a trim or cut when needed, and using a good conditioner. At home, don’t use consumer products – using professional products is better for your hair.

Do you sell professional products in your salon?

Kisha: Yes. I consult with my clients to determine what would be best for them to use. More than half of my clients purchase the products they need through me.

What do you recommend for your clients?

Kisha: If your hair is chemically treated, I recommend that you come in every 2 weeks for the best natural hair care. If your hair is over-processed, then it’s best to come in once a week until we get it healthy again.

It’s important that you don’t use over the counter products – You can never be sure what’s really in the bottle or if it’s passed the expiration date. You can’t get the same results with box color. And the wrong shampoo or conditioner can strip your hair or leave a residue.

That is why I like to have a conversation with my new clients about their hair care habits.

If your hair is natural and has not been treated with chemicals, make sure you are getting your hair maintained, your scalp and hair cleansed, and your ends trimmed. With a well-preserved haircut, your ends won’t get out of whack, which is one of my biggest pet peeves.
