Salon Plaza Largo MD Shante Harris purpleWho Else Is Ready To Transform Their Look?

With 21 years in the industry, Shante’ Harris, owner of HairXtraordinaire in Largo, MD, is Salon Plaza’s Member of the Month for July!

She has known since age 12 her purpose in life – to help people to look their best!

Shante’s work has surfaced all over the DMV – Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Not only will she transform your hair to your desired look, she’ll also show you how to maintain it. To experience Shante’ would be the beginning of a lasting relationship.

Seven and a half years ago, Shante’ took the plunge. She stopped renting a booth and opened her own salon with Salon Plaza.

Here’s What Happened:

“Before I was ready to strike out on my own, I’d been renting a salon booth 30 mintues from home in Silver Spring, MD. I opened my salon with Salon Plaza in Largo, HairXtraordinaire, because I can give my clientele the intimacy and one-on-one attention they deserve.

Despite the 30 minute drive, all but 10 of my regular clients followed me. We’re like a family!

What’s great about a single chair Studio Salon is that I don’t have to overhear or deal with the conversations that circulate in traditional salons.

When the client’s service calls for a private consultation, I simply close the door and blinds to allow them the comfort they need. They definitely prefer private one-on-one attention better than anything else.

The difference between booth renting and running my own salon is that everything falls on me. Read about how I plan my day for more Life, Truth & Freedom at Salon Plaza.

If you’re also a salon owner, here are 5 ways to keep your chair full and your income high:

The secret to keeping clients over the long run is to give great customer service and let EVERY client know that you care and have their best interest at heart.

I don’t see myself as “just a hairstylist but as an image transformer–I bring life back into the hair.” I believe in what I do and I take care of whomever sits in my chair.

Coming to see me takes the edge off and the chance to relax with the one-on-one attention. I’m here to serve with a smile.

2. Attract First-Time Visitors

To attract new visitors to come in I rely on a variety of low-cost marketing strategies. Here’s what works for me:

I use online advertising such as Groupon. Another good practice is to place an ad in the local magazine and give half-off or a free special for the week or month. These offers are not just for first-timers – my regular clients really appreciate the discount as well.

3. Make Scheduling Easy

To make it easy for clients to book appointments, I recommend online scheduling. The one I use is called “Genbook.” It’s very helpful – I don’t have to tote around an appointment book. I can easily book, monitor, and maintain my schedule on any smartphone by downloading the phone app.

The system automatically confirms an appointment by text or email, sends a reminder 24 hours before the appointment, and encourages reviews.

4. Offer Products To Keep Clients Looking Their Best

Retail, Retail, Retail.

That’s the only way your clients can maintain their look. Keeping the shelves stocked and affordable will definitely increase your revenues.

5. Stay Current

By taking classes every 2 or 3 months I stay current. Also, I participate in hair shows and do photo shoots.

What’s Hot?

Here are 3 of my favorite methods to apply weaves:

Bonding attaches your weave to your own hair, close to the scalp. A quick way to add volume, length and streaks of color to your hair, this method will give you at least 4 weeks of comfortable wear. As a top stylist I treat the hair to prevent damage.

Tracking involves plaiting your natural hair in a circle around your head and then sewing the weave onto the plait. Lasting 2 – 4 months before you have to redo it, your natural hair gets a break from blow drying, curling and chemical treatments like color and relaxers.

Micro Bonding involves attaching tiny copper micro rings, keratin bonds to a small section of your natural hair close to the root at very low temperatures. This method is just for human hair quality weaves. Applied in strands, a full head of hair will usually need about 100 strands.

If you take care of your hair, this method can last you 3 – 6 months. It gives you the most flexibility with your hairstyle and looks completely natural.

Whichever method works for the look you desire, it’s best to come in every two weeks and keep your ends moist with hair oil.

Salon Plaza gives me the flexibility to run my salon the way that suits me and pleases my clients.

What are you waiting for?

“If freedom, control and the best enviroment to serve are what you are looking for, this is it. But don’t take my word for it. Take the tour and meet other successful salon owners at the Salon Plaza nearest you.”
