Salon Plaza interviewed the owner of FLAWLESS, Eva Pritchard, to share her success story as a business owner and laser treatment specialist.
Salon Plaza: What was your career before you became a laser specialist?
Eva: Years ago I was managing a medical spa. Although I was a good manager, I wanted to get past the paperwork and into the hands-on. I like working one-on-one with people.
When the doctors at the medical spa expanded their business into laser, they wanted two employees to become laser specialists. They chose me, paid for my education, and I became certified in 2011.
Salon Plaza: Are you happy that you changed from management to doing laser treatments?
Eva: Yes. I really love the work. It’s very rewarding because in this kind of business you will find a lot of women who feel insecure about their appearance. You’d be surprised how many have facial hair and don’t want to go out, or won’t look you in the eyes.
I just want to help women regain their self-esteem. That’s why I do laser hair removal, vein treatments, skin rejuvenation, and treatments to remove and reduce wrinkles.
And yes, they definitely get better
Salon Plaza: Why did you leave the medical clinic?
Eva: My mother had a stroke. I decided to move back to Woodbridge where she lives to be close to her. At the time, before I know about Salon Plaza, I was looking for a small room. With most spaces you have to come up with capital to build out the space.
When searching online I found Salon Plaza’s ad on Craigslist to “be your own boss.” It said something like:
“Are you tried of renting, of building someone else’s dream? All you need is the key. Request a tour.”
That was early summer last year. Audrey, the Plaza Manager, told me they were opening a new Woodbridge location at Potomac Festival. I told her that I wasn’t ready, but would be interested later. In October, another plaza leader, Yolanda, called me and asked if I was interested in renting a space?
Now this was perfect timing! Still under construction, I signed a lease. In December I quit my job and in January 2017, the Potomac Festival Plaza opened. It was a little bit chaotic at first, but it all worked out.
