This post continues Salon Plaza’s interview with Rachel as our October Member of the Month…

Salon Plaza: What are the qualities that make the difference between success and failure as a salon owner?

Rachel: You need to be available to your clients.

Salon Plaza: What advice would you give to anyone who is considering Salon Plaza?

Rachel: Before you open your own salon, make sure you have enough clientele to support yourself. To be steady year round you need 150 to 200 clients. I had over 100 when I came.

Here are the 7 time-tested, profitable ways I build my clientele –

Salon Referrals & Bridal Shows

I consistently build my clientele with referrals and by attending marketing events like bridal shows. Events like these remind me to always try new things because it keeps my clients interested.

Salon Plaza Fountain Square A Cut To Dye For Fliers & Facebook

To let people know about me and to stay on their minds, I hand out fliers about who I am, what services I offer, and how to find me and make an appointment.

Check out my Facebook page. It keeps my clients updated on the latest and lets them know when I go out of town. It helps me get new clients, too.

The SECRET About Groupon

I’ve had great results with Groupon – I offered a color and cut. I only earned 25% of my usual price, but I got a lot of new business that keeps coming back.

That’s the secret!

To have a reason for them to keep coming back! What I’m most known for is doing highlights that are striking and different. What keeps me interested in doing hair is learning new techniques and styles by taking education classes and attending hair shows.

Stay Client-Focused

If you are my client, you’ll get a great cut with a unique look that gives you lots of compliments. At A Cut To Dye For, I focus on gaining your trust, putting you at ease, and making you happy.

“I was once a plain 50-year-old woman. Now that I visit Rachel Vicari at
A Cut To Dye For, she has transformed me into a goddess. I now have to fight off the paparazzi when I go into the public. Of course this is all in my head, but the hair ON my head looks fabulous! Thanks for all you do!”~Joan Morris “I was struggling to find a good stylist who could cut my hair the way I wanted and add the occasional purple streak when I asked. I happened to be walking by Rachel’s shop one day, saw a girl with pink hair in the window, and thought to myself “I’m going to try her!” I’m so glad I did! She does a beautiful job on my cut and color (I’m always getting compliments), she’s a wonderful person who puts me at ease, offers suggestions without being condescending, and is very flexible with appointments. What more reason does someone need?! I highly recommend Rachel at
A Cut To Dye For!“~ Meghan Wirt “People should go to
